Collaborative Care Through Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy

A Bridge for Your Therapeutic Work

As a fellow clinician with nearly 15 years of trauma therapy experience, I understand that certain clients may benefit from additional modalities while maintaining their primary therapeutic relationship. Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP) can serve as a powerful catalyst for clients who are doing important work in traditional therapy but finding themselves caught in persistent patterns or struggling to access deeper material.

Our Collaborative Approach

When you refer a client for KAP, you remain the anchor of their therapeutic journey. I serve as a temporary bridge to facilitate breakthrough experiences while ensuring seamless integration back into your ongoing work together. The collaborative process typically unfolds in the following way:

  1. Initial Consultation: We’ll discuss your client’s needs and treatment goals and ensure they are a good fit for KAP

  2. Pre-Treatment Planning: Sharing relevant clinical insights, having client sign ROI and establish coordination

  3. KAP Series: Time-limited intensive work (typically 6-8 weeks)

  4. Transition Consultation: Thoughtful handoff with integration tools and insights

Ideal Candidates

KAP can be particularly beneficial for clients who are:

  • Experiencing stuck patterns despite engaging well in therapy

  • Struggling with treatment-resistant depression or anxiety

  • Having difficulty accessing emotional material

  • Seeking deeper meaning or purpose

  • Ready to engage with their healing process in a new way

  • Demonstrating good ego strength and psychological resilience

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you maintain the primary therapeutic relationship?

You remain the anchor of your client’s therapeutic work. I serve as a temporary guide for this specific modality, always supporting the return to and strengthening of the primary therapeutic relationship.

What communication can I expect?

With client consent, I provide consultation opportunities throughout the process - especially ensuring coordinated care and smooth transitions.

How do you handle emergent material?

We’ll establish clear protocols for managing any challenging material that arises, ensuring your client feels supported both during KAP and in their ongoing work with you.

What if my client needs longer-term support?

The standard protocol is time-limited, after which clients return to their primary therapy with new tools and insights. If additional sessions seem beneficial, we’ll discuss this collaboratively.

How can I best prepare my client?

We’ll discuss specific preparation recommendations during our consultation, but generally, helping clients understand KAP as a complement rather than a replacement for their work with you is essential.

The therapeutic relationship remains the foundation of healing. KAP can serve as a catalyst within the container, offering new possibilities for insight and transformation.
