“When you learn to listen to the subtle cues of your body it will transform the entire direction of your existence.”

Considering therapy?

Each person seeking counseling is motivated by different reasons. Some people find it easier to talk about challenging and sensitive aspects of their life with a trained professional who can provide confidentiality and skillful guidance. Others find it helpful to have a place and time outside of their day-to-day life where they can feel safe to explore new skills and develop increased self-awareness. Whatever is bringing you to consider counseling, your choice has the potential to lead you towards enhanced personal insight, effectiveness and greater peace of mind.

Counseling specialties: anxiety, trauma & relationships

I work with adults individually and in their relationships. I am particularly effective in helping clients work through issues related to anxiety and trauma. I have extensive experience working with LGBTQIA2+ individuals am affirming of all relationship designs and am committed to being culturally responsive with all my clients. Areas of focus in our process together may include:

  • Exploration of family of origin history

  • Looking at attachment patterns in the context of relationships, intimacy and sexuality

  • Gender identity and gender-affirming care

  • Processing grief and loss

  • Identifying coping strategies with curiosity to see if they are still serving you

  • Building connection to self-awareness and self-compassion

Counseling approaches:

  • Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) Ketamine is a safe and highly effective medicine that I offer in conjunction with psychotherapy to facilitate the healing process. For folks who are struggling with anxiety, depression and/or trauma-related symptoms ketamine can offer a shift in perspective, mood and enhanced neuroplasticity leading to shifts in their everyday experience that sometimes doesn’t feel as readily available with “typical” talk therapy. I partner with a world-class medical team through Journey Clinical to determine whether you are a good fit for this treatment and will lead you through preparation, medicine dosing and integration sessions in my office.

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) proposes that we have internal systems that develop different parts - some that we may have to exile because they carry a burden of pain or trauma, others that help us manage our relationships and how we are perceived in the world as well as some others that will do anything they can to help us avoid pain or distress. In building up our core Self energy and bringing this to these parts we can shift stuck patterns, unburden trauma and feel freed to live more optimally and in the present. I have found IFS to be profoundly transformative in how we relate to ourselves - leading to increases in self-compassion, self-understanding and less reactivity.

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a highly effective and safe treatment for working with unprocessed memories. EMDR is based in the understanding that when we don’t have an opportunity to adaptively process highly charged experiences we can get “stuck” in loops that then lead to future events being experienced in similarly charged ways. This approach can be incredibly helpful for folks who struggle with hypervigilance or negative core beliefs about themselves, others or the world.

  • Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)  along with mindful movement and breath work can act as complements to talk therapy and support clients in building a positive connection between mind and body. We do this work with very careful pacing in ways that takes cues from the body, supporting safety in the experience of sensation and expression of movement.
